"Dil chahta hai" more...

A young man with an insatiable thirst for acting, directing, movies and Bollywood had got himself introduced in the film line at a mere age of 17 years. Acting as an apprentice with cinematographer-director, Manmohan Singh, Farhan Akhtar, was picking up random elements about the film industry which was going to make him the head-turning Director cum singer cum lyricist cum actor that he is known as, in today's film industry!
Farhan Akhtar born to Honey Irani & Javed Akhtar, formed Excel Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. with his friend,Ritesh Sidwani in 1999 and made his debut as a director in the film world with DIL CHAHTA HAI. We,film watchers were over clad and overburdened with the various stereotyped cliched, 'jalebi', wanna-be 'zara hatke' but failing to make their mark movies and desperately sought for a movie that not only outdid all the aforementionned but also made us forget the daily woes that our lives bore and reflect on real life issues that one could co relate to and laugh at,at the same time!
Dil Chahta Hai, offered nothing but the perfect balm to our ailments. It was a pure fun movie that bore real life issues, that we youngsters could correlate to, laugh at and walk out of the hall feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and craving for more!
Next came Lakshya (2004), another one of its kind movie, which did not do him much good at the box office but earned him much due critical acclaim .
He also simultaneously wrote lyrics for Gurindher Chadha's movie Bride & Prejudice.
Not everybody can aim at re-making a masterpiece that was so glamorous in the 1st go that falling short or appearing cliched and failing to please the audience with the same concept is much feared. In spite of knowing all the short comings Farhan Akhtar took the leap and directed Don. Though the movie was critically hammered, it proved to be a great success at the box office, grossing over 50 crores, and being the fifth biggest hit of the year. He is also in the process of making Don 2-The Chase continues.
In 2007, he produced the film Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.which performed fairly well at the box office.
A Bollywood figure barely ever interests himself with a non-profit welfare activity, unlike Farhan Akhtar. In 2007, he directed, Positive, a 12-minute short-film on HIV stigma and the need for family support for the patient. Shot in Mumbai, it was part of 'AIDS JaaGo' (AIDS Awake), a series of four short films, directed by Mira Nair, Santosh Sivan, Vishal Bhardwaj and Farhan Akhtar, in a joint initiative of Mira Nair's Mirabai Films and voluntary organisations Avahan and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Today's generation of youth has some or the other kind of rock music either pumping through their veins or are a part of it without realising it. Farhan Akhtar recognized this very essence and tapped it and made crores out of it or as commonly known as ROCK ON. This was his first acting and singing debut in today's film industry. It was critically acclaimed as well as a box office blockbuster. Salim Khan was so impressed with Farhan's acting skills that Salim Khan awarded him with one of his Filmfare awards. He also appeared in his sister Zoya's directorial debut, Luck By Chance.

He has appeared as a judge on a few shows on television, including the first season of the dance-reality show, Nach Baliye (2005), and the beauty pageant, Femina Miss India (in 2002). He is also a TV host on NDTV Imagine with his show: Oye! It's Friday!.

Listlessly, Farhan Akhtar has never failed to please his audience with creations as special as a chef cooking a made-to-order specially suited for you gourmet dinner. Born in a Bollywood family and with Bollywood blood flowing through his veins, he is making beautiful use of the various resources put out to him.

As Farhan Akhtar says,"Luck falls short if you don't have hard work to back it up with!"A man with his own panache for good fashion and excellent taste of presentation, he keeps thrilling his audience incessantly with his out of the box thinking and keeps up to his own morals.

Kudos to a man who has realised the need to production of alternative films!

What goes around,comes around....

Prologue

An old tradition of ragging and freshers used to be a common happening, perhaps as common as a bengali, teaching other people bengali sayings or god forbid, the language itself! LOL
Anyhow with the onset of UG batch 2006 gone were those days when ragging, dress codes and freshers used to be a part of the curriculum. It was all gone with the complains and "whatever"s.
Along came lots of instances where 2k5 did its level best to put down 2k6 and 2k6 came up with some equally devilic fight backs. Some even fought back with senile poetry... :D

Act I,Scene I

1st hostel party of the year..Monsoon 2007..Friendship Day..its a party organised by the 2nd and 3rd years by collecting funds for the merry making of the fourth year. 2k5 took its first step of defiance and boycotted 2k6 from it and, we were very proud of ourselves.

Act I, Scene II

"Every action has an equal and opposite action".
UG 2k6 didn't put up with ragging, hell! we didn't throw them FRESHERS!
Take that...!

Act I, Scene III

Tables turn

2k5 has a vote and a settlement is achieved between two very hyper mobs on every minute issue and finally settled for "let them be our juniors!" and they got to participate in hostel nite '08.

Act II, Scene I

2k6 and 2k7 throw us a gala friendship day party! And, mind you a rather impressive one!

Act II, Scene 1.5

Heated discussion amidst all subgroups of 2k5 pertaining to whether we are getting a hostel night altogether!

Act II, Scene 1.75

Confirmation of Hostel Night discussion going on in the rooms of our juniors.
OLA!

Act II, Scene II

Hostel Night party dates are clashing with lots of people activities on various sub levels.

Act II, Scene III

A final suitable date was devised and the Hostel night fever had started spreading with the putting up of the notice of the Hostel Night or AKA the official hostel night poster!

Act II, Scene IV

The hostel night fever had started spreading with the hunting down of tailors, matching accessories, running to gawher ali etc. etc.

Act II, Scene V

D-Day !!!!
The endless queues at THE sari person(*&^%), people lining up for her to make them help out with their saris, then lining up next by me for getting their make up done; while Richa and Ishanie rant on about how we should get to the arena! And,oh! the occasional interruptions of our juniors in our rooms to rush to the arena, but alas! Ended up just standing there ;)

Act II, Scene VI

Finally, the beautiful ladies trotted into the arena; while my spirits chanted,
"LET THE GAMES BEGIN!"

Epilogue

After four years, as I gear up to leave this wretched hell of a place, with which sadly enough like all the people who've been here & fell in love with, I be spared no different fate!
Sadly enough, I couldn't get to know my juniors half as nicely I should have or shared better bonds with. As the celebration of Hostel Nite concluded and the hour approaches when my soul hums,"All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go...", I wish I had shared more "photographs and still frames in your mind " with my juniors and more.....
